Food Processing Plant Construction

Clover-Stornetta Farms is a locally owned and operated dairy processor, and they called on McDevitt & McDevitt to build the new bottling plant in Petaluma. Because production never stops at a dairy, one of the challenges was bringing the new facility online as the old was was being decomissioned. Since the 1991 bottling plant construction, McDevitt has continually upgraded and added facilities to the plant. In 2007, a new cooler was constructed and waste treatment facilities upgraded.

Challenges to working on various Clover projects include meeting strict health and environmental standards, coordinating with equipment vendors, installing cast-in-place in-floor conveyors and providing infrastructure for Clean In Place (CIP) sanitation systems. Each phase was constructed in a manner that allowed surrounding areas to remain safe and operational.

Reliable, Resourceful, Responsive

Clover Stornetta Dairy

When Alvarado Street Bakery purchased a larger, existing building to create their new bakery in south Petaluma, they chose McDevitt & McDevitt as one of their contractors. The new bakery, occupying 70,000 square feet, will start with two ovens and have room for a third. Joseph Tuck, the CEO, expects the company to double its current sales and to add more employees at the new facility. The building was formerly home to the Russ Berrie & Co. toy warehouse and needed extensive structural repairs, upgrades and earthquake retrofitting. Making sure that the roof was sound presented some challenges and required close coordination with the owners, the structural engineer, the architect and the experienced subcontractors on the project. McDevitt & McDevitt is proud of our success with this project and our continuing relationship with the employee-owners of Alvarado Street Bakery.

"Thanks as always. I love seeing that businesses like yours keep true to their word about value added. It's a rarity these days it seems."
